Got the timing for the roast -- gave myself until 9am to enjoy my morning.
| it's the girl's book. My toast holder. |
9am on the computer, working on PIC MIC's latest group of images. Still trying to make decisions, but went ahead and formatted everything. 11am time to get the roast ready. Opened the package. There are strings. No one said anything about strings. Called Mom again. Gma says leave the strings on. Talked to Mom, discovered I have a pork roast, she make beef roast (christ, I don't eat either...). Yes leave the strings on. Mom is hesitant. I tell her I will google it. Google it. Get some additional information on time and temp for a small roast. Mom's a real woman in Oklahoma and cooks for families - her roasts are much bigger!
Get the roast in. Call Dad.
Dad Report: Something was going on today which made it extra difficult for him to keep the phone in the right position to hear me. My theory is that he isn't taking his hearing aid out and therefore isn't pressing it to his ear and thus its easier for it to stray. Our entire conversation was done in one-3 sentences before he would shout "are you there? are you there?" and I would say "yes, can you hear me?" he would shout "are you there? can you hear me?" I would reassure I could always hear him and was still there but he probably needed to correct the phone position. He would do so, we would re-group on topic - and then he would shout "are you there? are you there?" He was shocked and horrified that I never had made a roast for my "husband." Even more amazed that I didn't eat pork or beef - "Do you cook it for your family? for your husband? Does he get upset?" His concluding statement on the topic was "well I have eaten meat since I was a child at dinner, I don't know how you can have dinner without meat." Mickey's being a vegetarian only lead him to conclude "well I guess that's why Henry does all the cooking."
Still waiting to hear from Hobbs. Waiting is hard. So after my call with Dad -- I packed up everything and ran out the door to work. yay.
Worked for 3ish hours. Got some stuff done. Got irritated. You know the usual. Ran home afterwards to get carrots and potatos in with the roast, oh look the roast is done. shit. Um ok. Put the veggies in to play with the roast. Put them under the roast... maybe the weight and warmth of the roast will make them cook faster?
Got back on the computer - finished up the cards. Just need some input to figure out which designs to print.
Dinner happened for the meat eaters (with a little fast-forwarding of the veggies on the stove). They tell me it all was perfect but I am not a believer. There was a spat before dinner which effected the overall spirit in the kitchen.
I managed not to pout too badly; and asked the VHM for help in decisions. He was clear as always; clear that I needed to bump up the contrast/color on some of the images. EEEEEEK. #1 - a time crunch is not the time for learning (and I am in a time crunch). #2 - I hate being "done" and then finding out I am not done. #3 - altering someone else's image makes me a tad queasy.
Another hour of work - revisited all the images. Made some decisions. Got sent back to do more work on some. *glares* But when all was said and done -they are better for card selling and as almost always - the VHM's eye is good, his advice while not always well received is on point and desperately needed. I managed to just finish getting them into the WHCC system for printing - another late order. sigh.
Random Photo of the Day:
Soon it will be like this all the time. Soon.
Sigh. I expect the world will be exceedingly busy between now and BizBaz. Makes me tired just thinking about it.
