the VHM and I went to Abilene, KS (yes we have one too)
We went for a few reasons - one a actual steam engine run train; two - a fair number of antique/junk shops; three - an old timey carousel; four - not to far but not to close.
So this blog is late - cuz we didn't have a computer or good internet - apologies for that - and if you aren't into trains -well then this post probably won't be that interesting.
We did do some wandering around HUGE antique shops - and we ate big hearty Kansas style meals (a bit more about pie later).
We had a night of fun and debauchery (no photos) - but I think my favorite part really was just spending time with the VHM; and the train ride.
On Saturday - they were celebrating Chisholm Trail Day
(Abilene is at the head of the Chisholm Trail)
And we got to see the train in action...
He was so cute and really excited when I asked if I could take his picture
and then the next day got to go on the train -
IN THE CABOOSE!
Stairs to the seat!
View from my window
Letting off some steam over the bridge
Train track art
It was a grand time!
Three things:
1. This blog entry is dedicated to Robert "October" Baugh - my other Dad - cuz I know he likes the choo-choos!
2. Thanks to my VHM for my lovely weekend and birthday present: He says "it's us!" [image is pressed into paper - super cool]
and 3. I was under-impressed by the pie crusts (I ate 3 slices all at different restaurants) in Abilene. Kinda makes me feel like I could do better....hm.
what a great birthday trip! looks like you two had a blast. : )
