I'm still waiting for final numbers/specifics... but my meeting with Heidi at Raven Books went very well.
She was busy - Raven is reaping the benefits of our local Borders closing down -- and business is well, seemingly booming. In amongst the customers, I showed her the cards -- and explained our pricing structure. She was super excited.
"I would totally buy all of these!" <<< that's a nice endorsement.
I admit I was a bit giddy inside, but played it all cool. Because it was so busy and it seemed like a snap decision would lean toward the conservative side, I suggested she take the samples for review along with the order form and take some time. We will meet tomorrow for the final numbers.
She assured me of two things:
One: she wanted to make sure I had at least 6 of each card, as she likes to fill the rack when she purchases as she feels like the cards look better that way...
Two: she wanted me to know she would take at least 2 of 2 of the sets (and mentioned she might want one of the Games set for herself).
It was clear she was totally supportive of the pricing I had set -- and that she wasn't just being polite (something I was worried about as I do sorta - kinda know her).
She also was very excited about how nice - "beautiful" - they looked, and how they were packaged.
She really liked the snails picture: (yah I know the watermark is not the greatest... I'm still learning this stuff)
Anyway...just called my sister, she still hasn't gotten the package with the samples of all the cards - I hope she gets them tomorrow. The fact is -- if her pictures weren't inspiring - I wouldn't have tried to do this. So really this project was launched on my respect and admiration for her view of the world. I will be forever grateful - no matter what the future holds - this project has already given me many gifts.
Dad Report: Had a long talk with Dad today. He was kinda grumpily at first. It was a grey day there. We got to talking about the Taterpickle Papers project, and he had a hard time grasping it. I made the mistake of making some lame joke "well, if they don't sell -- guess everyone will get cards for Christmas" - this confused him into a train of thought about them being Christmas cards that I had ordered. He kept asking me - "well, don't you know how many you usually send?" -and I would say that I wasn't buying them to send, I was buying them to re-sell. He would say "Oh!" and ask me an appropriate question/make an appropriate comment - and then ask me again "well, don't you know how many you usually send?" We did this in round robin fashion a few times. It was delightful.

Eh. It's stirfry.
The next big thing:
Set up Etsy Store

Work on bio
Take better pictures of product
WRITE.
Get new pricing info/agreement to sister
Set up Box.net account
Send check to BizBaz
Fears & Anxieties: well I could start worrying about the next store to talk to but really right at this moment - I AM NOT WORRIED. <<<< super big thing.
Footnote: I am disappointed that our society continues to use death as a punishment for taking a person's life. I am outraged that in cases where innocence is in doubt, we feel like we have to rush to kill rather than taking the time to figure out the truth. I am not a believer in a Christian God, but I do believe our energy returns to the universe and I hope Troy Davis' energy is free -- something that we couldn't do as mortals for him.
